La Quinta, California La Quinta, Gem of the Desert, is nestled in the foothills beneath the Santa Rosa Mountains. La Quinta's history began in 1926 with the opening of the La Quinta Resort and Club. The resort remains a travel destination to this day attracting golfers, spa and sun seekers and convention goers. In 1926 La Quinta was finally incorporated as a city. Like Indio, La Quinta is one of California's fastest growing cities.

 College of the Desert

The widely respected College of the Desert is a California state community college with its main campus in Palm Desert and an Eastern Valley campus in Indio. COD offers a new Internet Virtual Valley Center. The program of studies offers students e-mail communication with their virtual instructor, electronic bulletin boards, and chat rooms, to help students be successful in their course work. This is a terrific offering for students whose schedule or location does not allow them attendance in the traditional school setting.
